This week saw the start of demolition at our extension and retrofit project on Clifton Road, Alexandra Palace, by contractors London Renovators. The house will be upgraded with triple glazing, phased retrofit wall insulation, and an extension of 9m² unlocks the ground floor, allowing us to create a generous kitchen with island, and add a WC and Utility space, along with plenty of coat and shoe storage for our clients and their two young children.

The extension's 440mm-thick external walls will use budget-friendly mineral wool, to achieve PassiveHouse levels of thermal insulation. The roof and floor will also be insulated well beyond unambitious Building Regulations minimums, and the high-performance Eksalta triple-glazed units will further reduce the cost of heating the house, and drastically improve comfort levels.

Phase 1 comprises the ground floor works (making much of the living space open plan), chimney removal, a new first floor bathroom, and creation of a new covered barbecue area and patio.
