We are really proud to announce we have been awarded the ASBP Judge's Award at this year's ASBP Healthy Buildings Conference and Expo. We were particularly proud given we were up against stiff competition in the form of the impressive Houlton Secondary School by van Heyningen and Haward Architects, and beautifully renovated East Ham Old Fire Station by dRMM.
The Judge's Award was given for our work designing Goldfinch Create & Play in Bristol - the world’s first Passivhaus certified art café. The café provides space to unwind, a play area, and a large multi-function studio, all in a bright and welcoming environment to nurture wellbeing and creativity through play and craft.
Special thanks to Goldfinch, for appointing us(!), Ecospheric our sustainability partner, Build Collective engineers, and main contractor Earthwise Construction.
We also really enjoyed seeing and learning about the products on show at the Expo, from hempcrete blocks (as versatile as concrete blocks, as easy to cut and lay, but with a much lower carbon footprint and they 'scrub' the air), to different kinds of breathable lime renders, made for longevity (which we also prefer because unlike cement renders, breathable lime does not crack from trapped moisture). We look forward to next year's event!
